In response to requests from teachers that I met when they attended ‘Arts and the Environment’, I developed a Willow weaving course that I ran on a farm in Nottinghamshire, with the support of a local landowner in 2004. Each day 12 teachers learnt to cut willow and built 3 different structures, willow fencing, tunnels and domes around a lake.
By the end of the day all the attendees were confident that they could build and maintain a willow structure at their school and many took away willow to start immediately!
I provided a resource pack with contacts of suppliers as well as revision and extra details from the day, so that no-one had to try to write anything down as we went.

Karen Elkins - trainer
I developed ‘Arts and the Environment’ and ‘Teaching the Tudors’ as a freelance trainer funded by the Nottinghamshire Enterprise Business Alliance (NEBA).
These were so popular that I quickly had a  demand for further arts development training and I created ‘Hands on Art History’ and a Willow Weaving course.
I have since been invited to run Inset days in schools and work with all of the staff members, taking in a selection of practical activities together with a resource pack.
I provide cross curricular references to as many subjects as possible and ensure that all my courses are applicable for teachers
